Aviva Canada is seeking a seasoned leader and litigator to join its Leadership Team in Toronto. Reporting to the SVP Casualty Claims & Litigation, the successful candidate will manage and lead Aviva Canada’s Claims In-House Legal Department. The successful candidate will manage all aspects of the In-House Legal Department, including design and implementation of management structures, growing talent, training and development, budgeting and reporting. As a member of the senior leadership team, the successful candidate will also be involved in setting overall corporate litigation strategy.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 15 years of active litigation experience(including trial and appellate work) gained from a law firm or corporation and a proven track record of effectively leading and managing a department or practice group of lawyers. Experience in either the insurance sector or in complex commercial litigation will be considered a key asset. As a trusted advisor to the Leadership Team, solid judgment and business acumen are essential to the role, as is the ability to find the appropriate balance between legal expertise and business judgment.
