Reporting to the Director of Legal Affairs, Western Region, responsibilities shall include the drafting and negotiation of retail and office leases, including big box and anchor tenants; assisting law clerks in the drafting and negotiation of retail and office leases; drafting and negotiation of supplier, construction, communications, marketing and various other contracts and agreements; providing consultation and advice to leasing and operations managers of shopping centres and office buildings as well as to various personnel within our construction, marketing, IT, communications and other departments; providing advice, counsel and services in matters of default pursuant to existing agreements and in the management of litigation files with outside counsel, including defaults and bankruptcies; maintaining and updating precedent leases and agreements; carrying out and assisting with special projects; and providing advice, counsel and services in relation other legal matters from time to time.
As member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada, you are a self-directed, achievement oriented person with 3 to 6 years of experience practicing law in a firm or in-house. Membership in the British Columbia bar is an asset. You are a team-oriented individual with solid interpersonal skills. Your superior communications skills coupled with your legal real estate/leasing experience and superior negotiation skills will be paramount for success inthis role. The ability to work in a fast- paced environment with a group of highly motivated individuals is a must.
